The inspiration behind "Professor Watermelon" stemmed from the rigidity and bulkiness of existing mouthwash products, which failed to resonate with the aesthetics of young internet users. The designers observed that drinking mouthwash directly from the bottle was unsanitary, and the large bottles lacked a separate cover with a capacity scale, leading to secondary pollution. Recognizing a gap in the market for small capacity bottles, they developed a 100ml bottle, convenient for consumption and travel.
What sets "Professor Watermelon" apart is its focus on the younger demographic. The packaging uses environmentally friendly, degradable PET new materials. The large bottle features a separate outer cover with a capacity scale, making it more hygienic for consumers. The 100ml small bottle allows consumers to pour mouthwash from the large bottle, facilitating ease of use during business trips.
The packaging is realized using new PET material that is environmentally friendly and degradable. The bottle label is printed with special paper and spot color technology. The large bottle measures 62mm in width and 235mm in height, with a capacity of 550ml. The small bottle measures 53mm in width and 72mm in height, with a capacity of 100ml.
The design process was driven by extensive internet big data research, revealing that young people are the primary buyers of mouthwash. The designers incorporated the preferences of this demographic into their design, resulting in a product that is simple, fashionable, environmentally friendly, and portable.
Despite challenges in model development and capacity calculation, the design team successfully created a product that is user-friendly and portable. Their efforts were recognized when "Professor Watermelon" was awarded Silver in the A' Packaging Design Award in 2021. This prestigious accolade is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and a high level of excellence.
In conclusion, "Professor Watermelon" is a testament to the power of thoughtful design. By addressing the needs and preferences of young consumers, Gaowei Xin, Cui Peng, and Fengqi Qiao have revolutionized mouthwash packaging, setting a new benchmark for others in the industry to follow.
